The Kenya Red Cross declared the Kimende landslide escarpment a danger zone after a landslide struck the area on Tuesday night, triggered by heavy rains associated with El Niño. Fortunately, no casualties were reported immediately, but several individuals remain unaccounted for.

The aftermath of the landslide adds to the toll of the widespread flooding across Kenya, claiming nearly 300 lives and displacing over 200,000 people. Despite the Kenya Meteorological Department’s announcement of subsiding rains, their impacts persist.

In Nairobi’s Mathare slum, heavy rains led to a house collapse, adding to the devastation. Mathare, one of the worst-hit areas, experienced severe flooding, resulting in over 30 fatalities. The river overflowed, destroying many houses along its banks, prompting evacuations to prevent further tragedy.
